Dolores M. Smith

Dolores M. Smith, 88, of New Oxford, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Robert A. Smith who died March 23, 1987. Born November 18, 1930 in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Clair R. and Inez (Stauffer) Markle. Dolores was a retired nurse from the Hanover Hospital and later retired from the VNA- Hanover. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover. Dolores was a 1948 graduate of Eichelberger High School, Hanover and a 1951 graduate of Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing. Her sand tarts were a family favorite and will be missed by many. She enjoyed working on her genealogy and spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren. Surviving are three sons, Arthur C. Smith and wife Lori of Hanover, Terry R. Smith and wife Sara of New Oxford and Neil A. Smith and companion Catherine Miller of New Oxford; five grandchildren, Holly Liska, Hanna Grau, Leah Green, Jacob Smith and Olivia Smith; two great-grandchildren, Cole Medina and Reed Grau; two siblings, Jean Boyer and Robert Markle both of Hanover. She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Olsen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover with Rev. Msgr. James Lyons as celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Edgegrove. Friends and relatives will be received Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, with prayers at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Green, Jacob Smith, Jed Grau, Ben Liska, Jay Boyer and Knute Olsen. Contributions in memory of Dolores may be made to VNA of Hanover, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.

Dolores, you will be so sadly missed. You always thought of others first. Your life was filled with ups and downs but you always had a kind word to say and a smile of love in your heart. With all of love, Art & Lori
