Richard L. “Cook” Crushong, 83, of Hanover, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Mary L. (Hemler) Crushong for 43 years. Born April 29, 1935 in Harney, MD, he was the son of the late Abram E. Crushong and Dorothy M. (Reaver) Crushong-Wentz. Cook was retired from EMECO Industries, Hanover with over 38 years of service and Stambaugh Auto Sales, Hanover as a car salesman with over 41 years of service. He also worked many years at the Lincoln Speedway pit gate. He was a member of the Gettysburg Eagles and Moose. Cook was an avid walker, excellent car detailer, NASCAR fan, particularly Chase Elliott and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter, Sherry Kuhn and husband Chris of Hanover; daughter-in-law, Nancy Crushong of Abbottstown; step children, David E. Bennett, Cathy L. Baughman and Susan M. Myers; two grandchildren, Lauren Davis and Gregory Crushong; three step grandchildren, Genesis, Rachael and Michelle; two great-grandchildren, Cierra and Clayton Davis and five step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory and Richard L. Crushong, and his stepfather, Burnell K. Wentz. A visitation for friends and relatives will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Richard may be made to Adams Co. SPCA, 11 Goldenville Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
