Francine L. Matthews

Francine L. “Honey” Matthews, 49, of Steelton and formerly of Gettysburg, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at UPMC Pinnacle-Harrisburg. She was the wife of Kenneth W. Matthews to whom she was married 30 years. Born September 17, 1969 in Hanover, she was the daughter of Theresa M. (McMaster) Bixler of Gettysburg and Franklin L. Bixler of FL. Honey was a 1988 graduate of Gettysburg High School. She worked as an optician at American Eye Wear in Gettysburg for over 20 years, where she thrived on working with her patients. She was a wonderful cook, had a passion for reading and crafting, was devoted to her family and friends and enjoyed cuddling with her fur babies. Surviving in addition to her husband and parents is one son; Kevin Matthews and girlfriend, Elizabeth Hippensteel, sister; Lynn Bixler of Hanover, maternal grandmother, Mary McMaster of Hanover; paternal grandmother, Elsie Bixler of Hanover and parents-in-law; John and Emily Matthews of Gettysburg; special friend, William Cullison and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Gathering of Friends and Family to share memories will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Francine may be made to Adams Co. SPCA, 11 Goldenville Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family in this difficult time. Francine will forever be in my heart and memories. I believe the following quote sums up my precious friend well.
-Animal lovers are a special breed of humans, generous of spirit, full of empathy, perhaps a little prone to sentimentality, and with hearts as big as a cloudless sky.

Kenny, Kevin, and Family,
So sorry to hear about Francine. She was such a great neighbor- very caring and always willing to help (a great cook too !!). I have thought about her many times over the past several years. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
