Gerald J. Groft, 82, of Littlestown, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence (Laughman) Groft. He was born June 30, 1936 in Hanover, PA. He was the son of the late Harold Lawrence Groft and Romaine Esther (Grogg) Groft and the twin brother of the late Eugene Groft. Gerald was an avid car enthusiast, carnival lover, and loved spending his days outside in nature. He was the owner and operator of Groft’s Used Cars. Living his life to the fullest definitely describes Gerald. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans in Bonneauville, the Republican Club in Hanover, and a lifetime member of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Edgegrove. Gerald was an avid drum player, and loved jamming and dancing with his friends. Gerald is survived by one son, Gerald J. Groft Jr. and his companion Traci Zeigler of Hanover; one sister, Geneva Baugher of Fort Myers, FL. One granddaughter, Ashley Groft, one great-granddaughter, Olivia Florence, many nieces and nephews and Dolly Markle his friend and companion. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, with Rev. Joseph R. Howard officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation with the family will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

We are sorry for your family's loss. Gerald was a Great Man, he was Good to us. Helped Our Family when he could. We still cannot believe he is gone. We will miss seeing him riding around on his lawnmower almost everyday, or his waves whenever he saw us. He also loved Our Son so much. There will never be another kind, caring soul like Gerald. Our hearts are still so broken, We feel so lost. The Rinehart Family sends Our greatest Condolences. Gerald was a Great Man, He leaves behind a Wonderful Presence.
