Mary C. Neiderer

Mary C. Neiderer, 96, of McSherrystown, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Providence Place in Chambersburg. She was the wife of Gerard J. Neiderer who died March 29, 1979. Born December 29, 1921 in Orrtanna, she was the daughter of John I. and Virginia E. (Irvin) Hall. Mary was retired from the Hanover Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, McSherrystown and the Annunciation Adult Choir. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving are eight children, John Neiderer and wife Audrey and Gerard Neiderer Jr. and wife Patricia all of Gettysburg, Harry Neiderer and wife Christine of Catonsville, MD, Joseph Neiderer and wife Peggy of McSherrystown, George Neiderer and wife Sally of Hanover, Anne Herrick and husband Joseph and Rose Kane and husband Timothy all of Orrtanna and Mary Jordan and husband Dave of Mt. Airy, MD, 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two brothers; Francis and Paul Hall of Orrtanna. She was preceded in death by seven siblings; Betty Wentz, Joseph, Emma, Harry, John, Eileen, and Anna Hall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, McSherrystown with Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant. Burial will be private at St. Ignatius Loyola Cemetery, Orrtanna. Friends and relatives will be received Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, McSherrystown with prayers at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be John and Russell Kane, Nicholas Herrick, Michael, Thomas and Anthony Neiderer. Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, 26 N. Third St., McSherrystown, PA 17344.

I was blest to know and work with Mary at Hanover Hospital. She once told me she worked to pay tuition to send her children to Delone. We shared patients and prayers!

Judy and I were sorry to hear of Mary Neiderer's passing. She was a remarkable woman with a truly impressive family. We will miss her.

Mary had a beautiful soul that she shared with each person she met. Her love for her family is her legacy. Her delight in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was infectious. Her life reflected courage, faith and grace.
