Russell C. McCleaf Jr.

Russell C. McCleaf Jr., 93, of McSherrystown, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at his home with his children by his side. He was the husband of 65 years to M. Angela (Staub) McCleaf who died May 18, 2015. Born February 22, 1925 in Rocky Ridge, MD, he was the son of the late Russell C. and Clara (Hauver) McCleaf. Russell was retired from P. H. Glatfelter Paper Co. in Spring Grove after 39 years of service as an electrician and Power and Steam Foreman. Russell was a 1942 graduate of Eichelberger High School and proudly served in the Army Air Force during WWII earning the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover and McSherrystown Fish and Game Assoc.   Russell was an avid golfer at Flatbush Golf Course where he was a member of Team Play; he also competed in golf leagues at South Hills and Briarwood. His other hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening and also spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are four children; Connie Conrad and husband Bob of Spring Grove, Barbara Wrappe of Winston-Salem NC, Elaine McCleaf of Pacific Grove, CA and Philip McCleaf and wife Anna Lindstrom of Uppsala, Sweden, five grandchildren; Megan Wrappe, Emma Juarez, Katarina, Joseph and Laura McCleaf, one brother; William McCleaf of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a sister Anna Katherine Hull and a son in law Dan Wrappe. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12 noon, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown with Rev. Dr. E. Edward Keyser officiating. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. A time to share with family and friends will be Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 10 a.m. to the time of the service at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Russell may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Organ Fund, 30 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or VNA Hospice, 440 N. Madison St, Hanover, PA 17331.

Dear McCleaf Family, Sorry to hear of your loved ones' passing. He lived a long and productive life. My father worked with Russ.(Ralph Bollinger, who worked in the boiler room).
