Janet L. Keffer
09/15/1950 - 04/10/2018

Janet Louise Keffer, 67, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her home with her husband of 45 years, Jack and family members by her side. Born, September 15, 1950 in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of Richard J. and M. Mildred (Smith) Neiderer. Janet was a 1968 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from College Misericordia in 1972. Janet taught for 39 years. Her career included: St. Rose of Lima School in Meriden, CT, Annunciation of the BVM in McSherrystown and Rolling Acres Elementary in Littlestown. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover. Jan enjoyed decorating, cooking, entertaining and calligraphy but her passion was teaching and making people smile. The lives she touched with her kindness, caring and open heart are too numerous to mention. Surviving in addition to her husband, Jack, is her sister Susan Wagner and husband Larry of Gettysburg and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Gerald Neiderer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Rd. Hanover, with Rev. Ryan Fischer as celebrant. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Friends and relatives will be received Friday 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church. The family would like to thank the staff of the Hanover-Spring Grove VNA Hospice for their caring and compassionate services. Also, a special thank you to all of the oncologist and staff at Cancer Care of York who cared for her over her 7 months of treatments. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Janet may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Delone Catholic High School, 140 S. Oxford Avenue, McSherrystown, PA 17344.

I met Janet and a couple of her friends at the Gettysburg Firemen's Carnival in the summer of 1966. She was a dark haired and dark eyed princess that left a lasting impression. I never saw her again, but in the fashion of the day when proper young ladies from well respected families didn't call young men, she wrote me long chatty letters in that beautiful flowing penmanship that she loved so much. Years later, I saw an old neighbor and childhood friend, and found that he had married Janet's sister. He said that the lady she had become was a mirror image of the young lady I remembered. My sympathies to her husband and family. May GOD Bless her memory.

Though I met Janet only once she radiated a familiarity and warmth as we would have been life long friends. She made an impression never to be forgotten. Jack, a kind souls himself, and Janet were two life long friends made for each others. My thoughts and well wishes go out to Jack.

I was lucky enough to meet Mrs. Keffer when she instituted the Preppy Class at Rolling Acres. She taught my granddaughter, who to this day, will always tell you how much she loved her. She always had a smile for everyone and genuinely loved all the boys and girls she taught. My granddaughter was truly blessed to have had this amazing teacher and friend and I know she was the instrument that has made Jess the woman she is today. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. She will be truly missed.

Jack, I have such great memories of our time at Delone with the Class of '68. And though we didn't have regular contact, when we last saw you and Janet at a reunion, I found Janet to be the same smiling, bubbly person I remember from high school. I am sure she touched many lives in a positive way. Please know that I am thinking of you and your families at this difficult time and send my deepest condolences.

Janet was an amazing and beautiful human being who touched and influenced so many people's lives. I had her as my Kindergarten teacher, and to this day (I'm 41), she is still my favorite. Her light and love and warmth impacted me greatly and set me up to succeed all throughout my years of learning. When she would talk to you, she had this way of ALWAYS making you feel like the most important and special person in the world. It was a true honor and blessing to have known Janet. She was an angel put on this Earth to guide and teach and spread love and kindness. She will be greatly missed, but never ever forgotten.

Janet was an earth angel and now heaven's own. Blessed to have known such a compassionate and loving lady who inspired so many through her faith and love and will continue to do so. Jack, the love you and Janet shared is a testament that true love and faith never fail. May the joy she brought to you and others be celebrated with each memory.

Jan, I can't believe I am writing this. I was sure you were going to be here to mentor me as one of the S**T sorority girls for a long time to come. Brenda, Kathy and Pam will have to pick up the slack. Thank you for loving me and for your friendship. I will miss you forever. As a student from your first Kindergarten class of '76 from ABVM, you had an impact on me. I don't think you realized how much. Every child you taught was a better person because of your guidance. Jack-I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing her with the rest of us. She loved "her Jackie" and always talked about how you spoiled her. I love you both. RIP my beautiful friend. Until we meet again (with that glass of wine.) Love, Heather

Janet was truly an amazing person. Her gifts were endless. The impact she had teaching our boys at an early age helped shape, guide, and strengthen them more than she ever knew (and more than she would ever take credit for). Her selfless nature and pure kindness were unmatched. She was nothing but warmth. Her friendship will always be cherished, and her actions will always be a guiding light. May she rest peacefully and carry that never ending smile into the heavens.
