Betty J. Spertzel

Betty J. Spertzel, 87, of McSherrystown and formerly of Gardners, entered into God’s eternal care Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of George E. “Ernie” Spertzel who died April 26, 1997. Born January 15, 1930 in Plainfield, she was the daughter of Lenus and Larue (Bolan) Clair. Betty was a retired waitress from Bill’s Restaurant in Mt. Holly Springs. She was a member of Plainfield Church of God, the McSherrystown Moose and Hanover Eagles. Betty was an avid BINGO player and enjoyed her outings with the girls from Cecilian Village, McSherrystown. She enjoyed life to its fullest and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters; Debra McClintock and husband Bill of Carlisle and Sharon Lawrence and husband Steve of New Oxford, four grandchildren; Nick and Alex Lawrence, Brenda Baldwin and Kathy Thumma, five great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by eight siblings; Minnie Nickel, Anna Pearl Hollenbaugh, William, Charles “Chud”, Marlin “Dude”, Lenus “Jack”, Richard “Rit” and Gerald “Max” Clair. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown with Pastor Sam Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Idaville United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Betty may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

I am so sorry to read this. Betty was part of the "Farm Family" where my family grew up and worked together on the farm in Gardners with Ernie, Betty, Deb and Sharon. Rest in Peace Betty.
