Richard M. Crouse

Richard M. Crouse, 87, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center. He was the husband of Shirley A. (Hemler) Crouse to whom he was married 63 years. Born May 2, 1930 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Maynard D. and Renna E. (Michael) Crouse. Richard was retired from BMY in York after 15 years of service and then worked maintenance at the VFW in Hanover while operating his self-employed auto business. In his earlier years he worked with his father at M. D. Crouse Auto Sales. Richard was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica, Edgegrove, McSherrystown Home Association, Hanover VFW, American Legion and Amvets. Richard proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed playing cards, working on vehicles, traveling to New Mexico and New York and spending time with friends and family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children; Richard M. Crouse II of Albuquerque, NM, Lori A. Anthony and husband John of Hanover, Bonnie J. Miller and husband Jim of Hanover and Geralyn M. O’Brien and husband Jim of Abbottstown, nine grandchildren; Kristie Greenholt, Jason Neiderer, Rick Crouse III, Jaclyn Miller, James Miller, Danielle Butler, Nicolas Crouse, Joel Miller and Jesse O’Brien and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Cindy Crouse, a granddaughter Jennifer E. O’Brien and three siblings; Jack and Donald Crouse and Dorrie Crumrine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Sacred Heart Basilica in Edgegrove, with Rev. Joseph R. Howard as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave, McSherrystown, with a prayer service held at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Contributions in memory of Richard may be made to Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA 17331.

We are so very sorry to hear of Uncle Dick's passing. He was such a kind and caring man who always had a smile on his face. He will be remembered with much love.
