James R. Murren
05/16/1942 - 11/06/2017

James R. Murren, 75, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Sally A. (Timmins) Murren for 51 years.  Born May 16, 1942 in Hanover, he was the son of the late John W. and Lillian M. (Hertz) Murren.  Jim was retired from P.H. Glatfelter Co. with over 39 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica in Edgegrove, the McSherrystown Home Assoc., McSherrystown Knights of Columbus, Bonneauville CWV, and SAVES. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown and a veteran of the US Air Force. Jimbo enjoyed waking up at the crack of dawn, watching CNN News, and putzing around on his latest home improvement project. He was an avid napper and a master of lawn care maintenance. As the family foreman, he made sure all of our projects were done “the right way”. He fervently cheered on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and New York Yankees and in his spare time could be found having a cold one with his friends at the Knights of Columbus. But what Pap loved most in life was the time he spent with his wife, the ‘ole girl’ and laughing and having a great time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. Our memories of Pap are countless and will be cherished forever.  Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, John R. Murren and wife Sylvia of Hanover, Robert J. Murren of Hanover and Kristina M. Lawrence and husband Russell of McSherrystown; five grandchildren, Kimberly Martin, Elizabeth and Stephanie Murren, Carly and Benjamin Lawrence, five siblings, Raymond “Lefty” Murren of McSherrystown, Donald Murren and Kenneth Murren both of Hanover, Anthony Murren and Anita Murren both of New Oxford. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll “Butch” Murren.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Sacred Heart Basilica in Edgegrove, with Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil and Lawrence W. Sherdel concelebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received Thursday, 6 to 8 pm. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with a prayer service held at 8 pm.  Serving as pallbearers will be John and Robert Murren, Russell and Benjamin Lawrence, Justin Martin and Donald Sanders.  Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to St. Teresa of Calcutta School, Conewago Campus, 55 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA 17331.
