Anna Grace Smith, 96, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover. She was the wife of J. Carroll Smith who died April 8, 2012. Born July 12, 1920 in Hanover, she was the daughter of Lewis and Dorothy (Miller) Long. Anna was retired from the former Revonah Spinning Mills in Hanover and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover. She enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, sewing, flower gardening and camping with her family. Surviving are five children, Lillian DePalmer and husband Michael of Brodbecks, Ronald J. Smith and wife Annie of Smyrna, DE, Brian C. Smith and wife Sandy of York, Carol Keller of Hanover and Karen George of Glen Rock; 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Laverne L. Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover, with Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hanover. Friends and relatives will be received Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with a prayer service held at 8 p.m. and also at the church Wednesday 9 to 10 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Contributions in memory of Anna may be made to St. Joseph Church, 5055 Grandview Rd. Hanover, PA 17331 or the Benevolent Fund at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave. Hanover, PA 17331.
