Francis J. "Guinea" Rineman

Francis J. “Guinea” Rineman, Jr., 89, of McSherrystown, died on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Joan L. (Devine) Rineman who died February 16, 1975 after 25 years of marriage and Michelle A. (Lauro) Rineman to whom he was married 41 years. Born August 22, 1927 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Francis J. Rineman Sr. and Bertha (Lippy) Rineman. Guinea retired in 1987 from National Can Corporation where he was the shipping supervisor for many years. He was a member of Annunciation BVM Church in McSherrystown, a lifetime member of the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus #2551 where he achieved 4th degree status, the Bonneauville Catholic War Vets, a former member of the Notre Dame Club – Gettysburg Chapter. He was a member of the Lancers Drum and Bugle Corp in the 1950’s and coached little baseball in the 1960’s. He attended St. Vincent grade school in Hanover and graduated from Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown in 1945 where he performed in many operettas and plays and was manager of the football and basketball teams for 3 years. He joined the military in 1945 and served in the Army Air Force in Japan for 2 years, being awarded the Victory medal and the Army of Occupation medal. His passion was football and he was active in the Delone Athletic Association since 1949, becoming “The Voice of the Squires” in 1959, announcing football and basketball games. He welcomed fans to every event he announced over his 51 year span with “Good evening everyone and welcome to Squire Country”. He was named Man of the Year in 1970 by the Delone Athletic Association and recognized by them in 2001 for over 40 years of service. In 2010 he was honored for his 51 years as “The Voice of the Squires”. He officially retired from announcing at the end of the 2009 season. Guinea enjoyed spending time with his family, planting flowers, golfing, traveling, shopping, woodworking, riding motorcycles, NASCAR and was a Notre Dame Football fanatic, attending many home and away games. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all special to him, one of his favorite times was being on the go-kart “pit crew” for his grandson Patrick. He really enjoyed the time spent traveling with his son and grandson and all the great friends they made along the way. He felt greatly honored to meet and shake hands with Pope Saint John Paul II on a trip to Italy in 1983. Surviving in addition to his wife are two children; Ann Orndorff Bombita and husband Antonio Bombita of Gettysburg, Patrick J. Rineman and wife Deborah of Hanover and step son; Michael Conrad and wife Melina of Spotsylvania, VA, 7 grandchildren, Ryan Orndorff, Jeremy, Patrick and Dru Rineman, Jessie George and Michael and Katherine Conrad, 9 great-grandchildren; Sofie and Abram Orndorff, Jayden, Jonathon, Jacey, James, Camden and McKenzie Rineman and Lucas George. He was preceded in death by five siblings; Richard Rineman, Rita Stover, Ruth Butcher, Patricia Frantz and Phyllis Kale. He will also be dearly missed by his pet dog and constant companion and protector, Trixie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown, with Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friend and relatives will be received Saturday from 10 to 12 noon at Murphy funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown. As a tribute to his legacy, The Guinea Rineman Voice of the Squires Fund was established in 2016 by his family. Guinea was thrilled to know that his contribution to Delone will live on.
