Glenn C. Sponseller, 98, of New Oxford, entered into God’s eternal care, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. He was the husband of Beatrice R. (Neiderer) Sponseller who died November 25, 2009. Born February 13, 1918 in New Oxford, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Spangler) Sponseller. Glenn was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, New Oxford. He proudly served in the US Army during WW II with the 29th Division, 227 Field Artillery, Battery C in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. Glenn enjoyed hunting, tinkering with his tractors and spending time with family and friends especially his grandsons. Surviving are two children; Fran Newman and her husband John of Ashburn, VA and Roger Sponseller and his wife Maureen of McSherrystown, three grandsons; Michael and David Newman and Charles Sponseller, and two step-great-grandchildren, Jovan And Cory Rivera He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; Sarah Sponseller and two siblings; Guy Sponseller and Gladys Sneeringer. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, with Pastor Thomas Lush officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hanover with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Serviving as pallbearers will be Roger Sponseller, Michael Newman, David Newman, Charles Sponseller, Tony Neiderer and Gene Swartz.
