James R. Slagle, Jr.

James R. Slagle, Jr., 73, of Hanover, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Rosetta (Houser) Slagle to whom he was married 53 years. Born February 26, 1943 in Hanover, he was the son of the late James R. Slagle, Sr. and Gertrude A. (Timmins) Slagle. Jim was formerly employed at SKF. He was a 1961 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown, the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus and Fish and Game Association. Jim was an avid hunter and softball player and enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially his grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children; James R. Slagle III and his wife Ginger of Hanover, Jeffrey M. Slagle and his companion Brenda Pritt of Fairfield and Jennifer D. Waldo and her husband Richard of Frederick, MD, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and seven siblings; Nancy A. Clouser, Elaine M. Sponseller and Michael P. Slagle all of Hanover, Judy Long and David A. Slagle both of Mechanicsburg, Thomas J. Slagle of Spring Grove and Deborah A. Holub of New Oxford. He was preceded in death by two brothers; John E. “Jack” Slagle and Anthony F. Slagle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2106 at Annunciation Catholic Church, McSherrystown with Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received at the church Friday from 9 to 10 a.m.
