Philip P. Meckley

Philip P. Meckley, 76, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care, Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center. He was the husband of Justina J. (Sneeringer) Meckley to whom he was married 54 years.  Born December 25, 1939 in Hanover, he was the son of Ray M. and Clyde (Neiderer) Meckley.  Phil was retired from ESAB after 40 years of service and was formerly employed as a cook at Bay City Restaurant and a bus driver for Lincoln Bus Lines. He was a 1957 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown a current member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover and formerly Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Abbottstown, and the Catholic War Veterans in Bonneauville. Phil proudly served his country in the Navy. He enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking and cooking, he cooked for Immaculate Heart of Mary Church BINGO’s and social functions for 11 years. Phil loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.  Surviving in addition to his wife are five children; Karen Gordon and her husband Jeff of Spring Grove, Jerry Meckley and his wife Diane of Abbottstown, Gregory Meckley and his wife Jennifer, Tony Meckley and his wife Elaine and Kelly Brown and her husband Neal all of Hanover, eleven grandchildren, and two sisters; Susan Smeak of Hanover and Christine Neiderer and her husband Wayne of Manassas, VA.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover with Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt as celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard following the Mass. Burial will be private. Friends and relatives will be received Thursday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and Friday 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.  Serving as pallbearers will be; his sons, sons-in-law and grandsons.  Contributions in memory of Phil can be made to St. Vincent Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or Veteran Affairs, 1700 S Lincoln Ave, Lebanon, PA 17042.
