Thomas P. McKim

Thomas P. McKim, 72, of Hanover, passed away, Wednesday, October 5, 2016. He was the husband of Judith M. (Topper) McKim to whom he was married 50 years.  Born February 6, 1944 in Irishtown, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Florence E. (Rickrode) McKim.  Tom was a retired member of IBEW Local 229 in York and had worked at I.B. Abel, Inc in York for over 40 years. He was a 1962 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, a member of Sacred Heart Basilica in Hanover where he was a Eucharistic Minister for 33 years, a life member of the McSherrystown Fish and Game Assoc., the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus, the McSherrystown Home Assoc., SAVES and the New Oxford Social Club. He proudly served his country in the Army. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and bird watching. He especially liked cruising, playing cards, golfing and spending quality time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.  Surviving in addition to his wife are two children; Kevin V. McKim and his wife Tammy and Marianne Rumbaugh and her husband Patrick all of Hanover, a grandson; Kellen, a granddaughter; Evianna and another grandchild to be born in November; four siblings; Dolores Groft of New Oxford, Norman McKim and Helen Swope both of Hanover and Gerald McKim of Gettysburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter; Elizabeth M. McKim and a brother; John I. McKim.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover, with Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery, with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown with prayers at 5 p.m.  Contributions in memory of Tom may be made to Sacred Heart School, 55 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA 17331.

Read about Tom's passing in this morning's Sun;my son called me late last evening about Msgr's passing. My condolences to your family on this double loss for two persons that I greatly admired.
