Donald R. Klunk

Donald R. Klunk, 92, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care, Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Brethren Home in New Oxford. He was the husband of Louise M. (Kaehler) Klunk to whom he was married 49 years and the late Leona (Frock) Klunk.  Born June 4, 1924 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Martin A. and Margaret M. (Pentz) Klunk.  Don was retired from Utz Quality Foods and proudly served during WW II in the Army. He was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica, a life member of McSherrystown K of C, Hanover American Legion, Bonneauville CWV, and McSherrystown Home Association.  He was a former member of the Lancers Drum & Bugle Corp and Color Guard and enjoyed helping with the Conewago Fire Co. Pot Pie dinners.  He enjoyed life and spending time with his family and friends especially the grandchildren.  Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons; Marty Klunk and his wife Diane of Fairfax, VA, Randy Klunk and his wife Elizabeth of Hanover and David Smith of Hanover, 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter, two siblings; Thomas K. Klunk Sr. and his wife Nancy of Hanover and Rose Spurlock and her husband Robert of Abbottstown. He was preceded in death by ten siblings; Charles, Bernard, Harry, William, Raymond, Paul, Edward and Agnes Klunk, Joyce Ginter and Gloria Phillips.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Sacred Heart Basilica, Edgegrove with Rev. Joseph R. Howard as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Hanover with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.  Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons; Donald, Shawn, Keith, Jarrett and Nathan Klunk and David Smith.  Contributions in memory of Don may be made to; Sacred Heart School, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA 17331 or the Brethren Home at Cross Keys Village,  Attn: Summerset Unit, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA  17350.
