Francis Warner

Francis D. Warner, 85, of McSherrystown, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, July 22, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Dolores T. (Gouker) Warner to whom he was married 66 years.  Born June 19, 1931 in Glen Rock, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ruth (Hildebrand) Warner.  Francis retired with over 45 years of service from George H. Bixler Plumbing and Heating in Hanover. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, McSherrystown. Francis joined the McSherrystown Fire Company in 1954 which started his career in emergency services. In 1956 he started running ambulance services and was the director of the area Civil Defense Team, he then served as president of the McSherrystown Fire Co from 1957 to 1958.  In 1976 he became the CPR and EMT Instructor for York County Training Institute at the York and Hanover Hospitals prior to transferring in 1985 to the Adams Co. Training Institute at Gettysburg College and Hospital.  In 1990 he became an affiliate of the Harrisburg Area Community College teaching EMT courses.  In 1995 he was appointed to the PA Emergency Management Council and in 1996 was granted approval as an educator of continued education classes for EMT’s and First Responders by the PA Dept. of Health. He was also a member of ACVESA. During his tenure he served as past EMS Captain, Fire Police Captain, president of Adams County Ambulance Association, part time McSherrystown Borough Police Officer and Adams County Constable.  Surviving in addition to his wife are three children; Barbara Shields and her husband Michael of McSherrystown, Anthony Warner and Mark Warner and his wife Christine all of New Oxford, six grandchildren; Michael, Dennis and Holly Shields; Shalon Himes, Danell and Megan Warner, five great-grandchildren; Jordan and Alyssa Shields Dylan and Ian Himes and Drea Warner, and a sister; Linda Fair and her husband Jake of Glen Rock. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Leroy and Clyde Warner.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Annunciation Catholic Church, McSherrystown with Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  Friends and relatives will be received Monday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, with prayers at 8 p.m.  Contributions in memory of Francis may be made to S.A.V.E.S., 5865 Hanover Rd, Hanover, PA 17331
