Paul F. “Pickle” Lawrence, 89, of McSherrystown, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Vivian L. (Becker) Lawrence who died November 11, 1994. He is survived by his long-time companion Arvella “Butch” Ketterman. Born November 5, 1926 in Irishtown, he was the son of the late Paul B. and Violet M. (Eltz) Lawrence. Paul was retired from Local 520 Pipe Fitters in Harrisburg. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown, a life member at: AMVETS Post 22, VFW, American Legion, Hanover Home Assoc., McSherrystown Home Assoc. and the McSherrystown Moose. He was instrumental in starting the McSherrystown Little League and Lower Adams Legion baseball. Paul proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren of whom he was proud to be the eldest of five generations. Surviving are eight children; Donald Lawrence and his wife Barbara of Hanover, William Lawrence of Hanover, Jack Lawrence and his wife Betty of New Oxford, Charles Lawrence and his wife Sandy of McSherrystown, James Lawrence and his companion Luanne Christian of Hanover, Joan Barnes and her husband Michael of Littlestown, Jeanne Smith and her husband Michael of Gettysburg, and Kay Green and her husband George of York New Salem; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; two siblings; Joseph F. Lawrence of McSherrystown and Regina Preston of York. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Carroll and Edward Lawrence, Josephine Cornbower, Barbara Miller, Margaret Noel, Pauline Poist and Geraldine Wagner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown, with Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown, with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Relatives and friends will be received Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with a prayer service held at 4 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be his six grandsons: Paul, Keith, David and Adam Lawrence, Travis Green and Nathan Barnes.
