Bernard C. Cole

Bernard C. Cole, 92, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center. He was the husband of Rita E. (Kaiser) Cole to whom he was married 42 years. Born February 20, 1924 in Adams County, he was the son of the late Charles I. and Ruth N. (Beamer) Cole. Bernard was retired from the Department of Environmental Resource, Forest and Water Division. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, a 70 year member of Gettysburg American Legion and a life member of McSherrystown Fish & Game Assoc., Hanover VFW and Disabled American Veterans. Bernard proudly served in the US Marine Corps during WWII receiving the Purple Heart for wounds obtained in Okinawa. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed flying remote control airplanes, bowling and spending time with family and friends especially those that he met during his daily visits to the Famous Hot Weiner North. Surviving in addition to his wife are four step children; Christopher Smith and his wife Deborah, James Smith and his wife Laura, Francis Smith and Betsy Reese and her husband Dave all of Hanover, five step-grandchildren; Suzanne Wimsett, Jonathan Smith, Rachael Smith, David Hertz and Allison Reese, four step great-grandchildren; Daniel and Nicholas Wimsett and Jonas and Augustin Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover with Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant. Following cremation, burial will be Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, New Oxford with military honors provided by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received for a viewing Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, with prayers at 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Bernard may be made to: St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA 17331.

To Aunt Rita, Chris, Jim, Francis and Betsy - Just wanted you all to know that I am there with you in spirit. May the Lord bring you peace and comfort during this difficult time. Bernie now rests in peace with him. God bless you all!

Dear Rita, You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I always enjoyed when David and Bernie came into the Famous when David was young. We enjoyed the time we spent living across the street from you and visiting with you and Bernie while we lived there. Sending you hugs from North Carolina.
