Jane Swope

Jane Swope, 95, of McSherrystown, entered into God’s eternal care Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover. She was the wife of Francis E. Swope who died October 12, 1975.  Born July 8, 1920 in McSherrystown, she was the daughter of Edward and Margie (Lawrence) Willet.  Jane was a lifelong member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown. She enjoyed reading, bingo and spending time with family and friends.  Surviving are nine children; Margaret “Peg” Weaver and husband Cyril, Francis E. "Skip” Swope Jr. and wife Janet all of McSherrystown, David Swope and wife April of New Oxford, Donald Swope and wife Joni of Hanover, Rebecca Kopf and husband Patrick, Patricia Groft and husband David all of McSherrystown, Pamela Little and husband Leon, Diane Brodie and husband John all of Hanover, and Anita Sipling and companion Ike Gladhill of Hanover; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by nine siblings; Carl, John, Burnell and Donald Willet, Mildred Horwedel, Marie Carbaugh, Ruth Cover, Rita Eckenrode and Marion Sanders.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown, with Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received Monday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Jane may be made to; Annunciation Church Memorial Fund, 26 N. Third St. McSherrystown, PA 17344.

Anita, I can still remember us sitting at your kitchen table and talking with Jane on Friday nights before our "girls night out" some 20 years ago. We never knew what the evening would hold, but talking with your Mom never failed to be the best part. Jane was a pure treat and thank you for sharing her with me.
