James L. Lawrence Sr.

James L. Lawrence Sr., 74, of McSherrystown, entered into God’s eternal care Monday, December 28, 2015 at ManorCare, Dallastown. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Lawrence of Hanover. Born April 27, 1941 in McSherrystown, he was the son of the late Francis B. and Mary E. (Lookenbill) Lawrence. Jim was the owner/operator of Lawrence’s Body Shop, Inc. in McSherrystown for the past 50 years. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, McSherrystown, the New Oxford Social Club and a life member of McSherrystown Moose, McSherrystown Home Association, McSherrystown K of C, Hanover Amvets, American Legion, VFW and Hanover Home Association. Jim proudly served in the US Air Force. He enjoyed bowling, dirt track racing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. Surviving also is one son; James L. Lawrence Jr. and his wife Kim of McSherrystown, five siblings; Angela K. Miller of Hanover, Geraldine C. Carbaugh of McSherrystown, Samuel L. Lawrence Sr. of Gettysburg, William G. Lawrence of New Oxford and Cheryl A. Mauck of Annapolis, MD. He was preceded in death by a son Jesse Lee Lawrence, a brother Robert F. Lawrence and a sister Clare T. Coffey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Annunciation BVM Church, 26 N. Third St, McSherrystown, with Rev. Charles L. Persing as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received Wednesday 6 to 8 pm at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown with prayers at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Etzler, Dustin Beard, Cory Sorrells, Dave Beaston, Chuck Lawrence and Nate Walton. Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to: Johns Hopkins Hospital, 750 East Pratt St, Baltimore, MD 21202.
