William I. Kessler

William I. Kessler, 92, of Hanover, passed away after a brief illness, Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center. He was the husband of June L. (Newman) Kessler, his wife of 71 years. Born October 2, 1923 in Hanover, he was the son of Roy and Hyacinth (Grove) Kessler. Bill was retired from HIMCo, an Auxiliary of American Can Co. He was a 1941 graduate of Eichelberger High School and earned his Associates Degree in Engineering from Penn State University. Bill proudly served in the Navy during WW II. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover and was a member of the Hanover Elks, American Legion and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed wood working, spending time with his family and friends and the companionship of his dog “Happy”. Surviving in addition to his wife are two children; Scott Kessler and his wife Carol and Kelly Wentz and her husband David all of Hanover, six grandchildren; Christopher Kessler, Amanda Lawrence and her husband Eric, Zachery Wentz and his fiancé Tawney Dickensheets, Benjamin, Tyler and Jeremiah Wentz, three great-grandchildren; Ellie, Noah and Carli Lawrence and a great-grandson to be born in January, Dentin, two siblings; Harriet Alban and Fred Kessler and his wife Doretha all of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a brother James Kessler. Per Bill’s request, the service and burial will be private.
