Catherine C. "Kate" Fitzpatrick

Catherine C. “Kate” Fitzpatrick died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of James L. Fitzpatrick who died May 15, 2013. Born June 16, 1926 in Los Angeles, CA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Estella (Lang) Connolly. Kate was a 1948 graduate of the University of Southern California, graduating with a degree in Sociology, she was a member of the Alpha Gama Delta Sorority and President of the Pan Hellenic Council on the USC Campus. She worked as director of the American Red Cross High School Education Program in Los Angeles County for three years, then joined the US Army Special Services as a Club Director in Mainz and Bad Kruenznach, Germany. While in Germany, she met her husband, Jim, and they were married in 1956 and moved to New York where he was employed by Arabian American Oil Co. In 1957, they moved to Saudi Arabia where they lived for 12 years, starting a family and enjoying the benefits of travel. They moved to San Francisco in 1969 where Jim was employed by Chevron Corp and Kate focused on raising their two daughters. As a family, they continued to enjoy travel opportunities in the US, Europe and Asia with several trips to the Southwest US and favorite locations in Northern Europe and Southern France. They moved to Hanover in 2005 to be near their grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters; Estella A. Fitzpatrick of McAllister, OK and Peggy Fitzpatrick and her husband Greg Keifer of Hampstead, MD, three grandchildren; Collen, Elsie and Brennan Keifer and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Mary and her husband George Kronenberg of Paso Robles, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 am Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Dr., Hanover, with Rev. Joseph R. Howard and Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil concelebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Per Kate’s request there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839 or the donor’s favorite charity.

Remembering our friend Kate, a very genteel lady, an astute Bridge player and very interesting conversationalist, will bring many warm and lasting memories. Our lives were much richer from having known her, and we will sorely miss her.
