Leonard F. Gebhart

Leonard F. “Gep” Gebhart, 86, of Hanover, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center surrounded by his family. Born September 25, 1928 in New Oxford, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Catherine G. (Martin) Gebhart. Leonard retired from Hanover Brands with over 23 years of service. He proudly served in the US Army during WW II with service in Japan. Surviving are five children; Cindy Kelley of Abbottstown, Leonard Gebhart II of McSherrystown, Anthony Gebhart and his wife Jill of Hampstead, MD, Joan Sterner and her husband Jerry of Hanover and Joyce Potts and her husband Denny of New Oxford, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert J. Gebhart. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Hanover with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home with prayers at 7 p.m. Contributions in memory of Len may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
